And now comes the hard part

Fixing the tile banking was easy, so now I can't postpone any longer the attack to the sprite encryption.
That should be significantly harder to fix than the tile encryption, I haven't even looked at the current algorithm yet so I haven't devised a strategy.

hi Nicola !

I don't understand a thing about coding, encryption and emulation, but I at least am able to run MAME32 to look at the result and it's been a perpetual amazement to me since the very beginning !
You seem to keep taking a great pleasure and interest in this and I respect you for that !
OK it's no help but you get all my friendly "positive mental waving" support ;)

bye

Again you have blessed us with great screenshots of your work so far and again I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I can't wait for the day we all can play your finished work and celebrate another great thing you have done for emulation.
decrypt the hardest games ever.
You are incredible.
It looks like you hit a nerve in everyone, since your getting so much comments on this subject, there really is a lot of fans for the Seibu games you included and me.
Thanks so much for taking your busy time in making these games playable.

Hi Raiden99,
I still cannot see the screenshots, actualy I´ve never could seem any picture posted at Nicola´s blog. I believe the address "xoomer.virgilio.it" has some kind of constraint (???). From my side it seems this address does not exist.

Anyway, that´s an outstanding achievent and I can´t wait to see the results at Mame.

Greetings Nicola, I heard on the shmups.com forum that you've begun work on this historic emulation decryption task. I'd like to give my thanks and appreciation for this, as these games are cherised by many fans around the world who were hearbroken when the japanese Xbox port of Raiden Fighters was cancelled in 2002, leaving all of these games without any home playable forms.

I can't express enough thanks for your legendary work on Mame up to this point, including this latest chapter of the Mame legacy. Thousands of Viper Phase One and Raiden Fighters fans around the world salute you!

I can only echo the praise of the other comments. This work, to me, is the most interesting stuff going on in MAME right now. Thanks a lot!

Can someone please answer whether this (amazing & appreciated!) work will lead to an emulated Raiden 2 (*not* fighters, or DX series)- that's one I've been waiting for for years - or is this work Nicola doing for unrelated hardware?

Thanks!

Raiden II has different encryption + MCU protection. Different hardware, different problems..

Hey you never know Raiden 2 just might be working by 0.93 comes out just prey to God it does and Nicola.
Keep up the great work Nicola.

To the best of my knowledge nobody is working on Raiden 2. The remaining encryption issues on Raiden 2 are minor (just a few glitches in some sprites) The real problem in Raiden 2 is the protection & banking which stops the game from working.

Keep in mind that the Raiden Fighters games were already fully playable before Nicola started decrypting the graphics, it was just harder to see what was going on. Raiden 2 / DX are NOT playable at all.

I remember 2 years ago people said SPI would never be decryptes. They said the same about Sega's 16 bit hardware too. It's great to see encyption issues not be the kind of insurmountable obstacle they once were. Good luck on those sprites, Nicola.
